Dawn Langhi-Paper

In class you read us your paper about highways. This is topic hit very close to home since every time I come to CNU I am forced to sit in traffic for an hour trying to get through the stupid tunnel. I never really though about how closed off from the world you really are when driving, especially when you are driving alone and on highways. The interstate has to be the most stressful situation ever. No one has any concern or compassion about their fellow drivers and are willing to kill someone just so they can get to their destination faster. I actually had a very close family friend die from being hit by a tractor-trailer while driving on the interstate; she was only 19 years old. While the driver did not intentionally set out to take her life and the two passengers lives his actions while driving could have prevented the incident. If he would have just been driving a little slower and more responsibly in the rain instead of trying to meet his time deadline maybe he would not have lost control on the slippery road. Driving sometimes does not completely isolate you from nature either. I know when I drive with my six-year-old niece we always play ispy. She usually tries to find an interesting tree or bird to point out and gets excited when something new is spotted.
